COVINGTON — Gary Kempf, 66, Covington, died at 6 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000 in Carle Hospital, Urbana, Ill. He was born Dec. 22, 1933 in Louisville, Ky., the son of William Joseph and Jennie Cecelia Miles Kempf. He married Carolyn Trott Sept. 27, 1959 in Crawfordsville, who survives. He graduated from Perrysville High School and was active in school sports. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and visiting with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church, Covington. He retired from Iron Workers Local #380 in Champaign, Ill. and served as a director for the Y.M.C.A. in Danville, Ill. Survivors, besides the wife, include: three daughters, Julie (Greg) Allen, Marcie (Marc) Dewlin, Nancy (Travis) Tuggle, all of Covington; a son, Greg (Marla) Kempf, Hillsdale; two brothers, Fred (Jeannie) Hickman, West Terre Haute, Donald (Julia) Hickman, Rosedale; two sisters, Karen (Edward) Şexton, San Francisco, Calif., Myra Hickman, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren, Meggin (Dusty) Woodrow, Kyle Allen, Courtney Allen, Faith Allen, Jessica Allen, Bradley Allen, Sean Malone, Michael Malone, Zachary Kempf, Chelsea Dewlen and Miranda Tuggle. He was preceded in death by a brother, Mike, and a sister, Jackie. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Maranatha Baptist Church, Covington, with the Rev. Robert Hamblen officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington. Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials to the Maranatha Baptist Church. – jlr
